Year 1 Medieval Enrichment Day

Lesson: History

Class: Miss Phillips Year 1 and 2 EATON Year: 2018 - 2019

What a wonderful day we have had!

Thank you so much to all of the parents/carers for your donations and amazing costumes. The children looked fantastic and we hope they have had a fun-filled day!

This morning we met Sir William and Queen Anne. They taught us about parts of the castles then we pretended to enter different rooms and act out what you would do there. Sir William told us a story about a Prince and a Princess and the children were able to take part. We played a range of different Medieval games. The children used clay to make crowns and then decorated them with jewels. We then acted out being in a great hall, learning about a Medieval banquet. The children all had a role whether they were the King, the servants, the jester or the dancers. Finally Sir William taught us about how to be a knight and how the Queen kinghted the men. All of this took place with the 'Makers of History' Company - they were incredible and really helped bring the past to life!

In the afternoon sessions the children compared medieval kitchens/bedrooms and market places with those today - they could spot old and new things in the pictures. The children then imagined they were a King or a Queen for the day and set rules for their land. Our favourite being - Everyone has to feed them chocolate!

We hope the children have come home filled with exciting tales.

Kind regards

The KS1 Team
