Miss Phillips' Big Maths Group Spring Term

Date: 8th Jan 2016 @ 12:19pm

This half term our maths class will be learning to ...

- understand the place value in 2 digit numbers. For example understanding that 73 is 70 and 3 ( 7 tens and 3 ones). If you want to support your child with this at home, try playing this game

- we will be beginning to add and subtract in our heads using our knowledge of 10 and our number bonds to 10 (5,5 6,4 7,3 8,2 9,1). For example 17 + 3 (we know 7,3 makes 10, so we can use that to find our answer) or 25 - 9 (we would take away 10 then add 1 back on). When travelling to and from and school you could challenge your child to solve an addition and a subtraction question mentally. Alternatively the children could play this game on their Ipad or computer.

- measuring length, weight and capacity. We will then be trying to read the measures on weighing scales and measuring jugs. Any baking at home will always support this and of course you are always welcome to send in any tasty treats you have baked for the maths class to 'check' ! smiley

Thank you for your support and I shall see you in February for the maths evening
